Early Life and Education
Alba Caterina Rohrwacher was born on February 27, 1979, in Florence, Italy, to a German father and an Italian mother. She spent her childhood in the Umbrian commune of Castel Giorgio, where her mother was born and where her father kept bees. Rohrwacher attended medical school but soon realized her true calling lay in the arts. She enrolled in the prestigious Experimental Center of Cinematography, Italy's oldest film school.
Film Career
Rohrwacher made her acting debut in a small role in the TV series "Don Matteo" in 2004. Her breakthrough came in the 2009 melodrama "I Am Love," where she played the daughter of Tilda Swinton. Rohrwacher has since starred in over 80 films, including "Miracles" (2014), directed by her sister Alice Rohrwacher, and "Hungry Hearts" (2014), for which she won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice International Film Festival.
Collaboration with Saverio Costanzo
Rohrwacher has collaborated with director Saverio Costanzo on several projects, including the film "Solitude of Prime Numbers" (2010) and the TV series "My Brilliant Friend" (2018). In an interview with L'Officiel, Rohrwacher stated, "Little by little, a cinematic family has been created that goes beyond cinema, with relationships that became my life."

Rohrwacher recently starred in Stéphane Brizé's drama "The Innocents" (2024), which premiered in Russian theaters in March 2024. She plays a woman who finds new courage and boldness after a chance encounter with a former lover. Rohrwacher described her experience working on the film as a "gift," praising her generous and attentive co-star Guillaume Canet.
