Stint with Bordeaux
In 2005, Alonso made his move to France, joining Bordeaux. He played 21 matches and scored three goals during the 2005/2006 season, helping Bordeaux secure a runner-up finish in Ligue 1. The following season, he became an integral part of the starting lineup, featuring in 30 matches and scoring once. Bordeaux finished sixth that season. In 2007, Alonso lifted the Coupe de la Ligue, qualifying Bordeaux for the UEFA Cup. He continued to contribute to Bordeaux's success, finishing as runners-up in Ligue 1 again during the 2007/2008 season. Across his Bordeaux career, he made 80 appearances and scored four goals.
Monaco Adventure
Summer 2008 saw Alonso switch to Monaco, signing a three-year contract. His debut came against Paris Saint-Germain on August 9, 2008. However, a severe knee injury sustained in March 2009 against Toulouse ended his 2008/2009 season prematurely.
Move to Saint-Étienne
In early 2011, Alonso joined Saint-Étienne, signing a contract for two and a half years. his time at the club marked the end of his noteworthy playing career.
