Bishop of the Grodno Diocese

Aleksandr Kaszkiewicz is the Bishop of the Grodno Diocese, a Catholic diocese centered in Grodno, Belarus. He was born on September 23, 1949, near the town of Eišiškės (present-day Lithuania).

Education and Ordination

Kaszkiewicz graduated from the Higher Spiritual Seminary in Kaunas. He was ordained a priest on May 30, 1976. After his ordination, he served as a parish priest in Panevėžys. From 1981, he was the rector of the Holy Spirit parish in Vilnius.

Appointment as Bishop

On April 13, 1991, Pope John Paul II appointed Aleksandr Kaszkiewicz as the bishop of the newly established Grodno Diocese. He was consecrated as a bishop on May 23, 1991, by Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz. He chose the episcopal motto "Jesu in te confido" ("Jesus, in you I trust"), taken from the title of the corresponding icon.

Leadership in the Church

On June 14, 2006, Kaszkiewicz was elected Chairman of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Belarus. He also chairs the Council for Youth Affairs and the Council for Catholic Education.
