Biography of Alexander Alymov
Alexander Nikolaevich Alymov was a Soviet military pilot, lieutenant, and Hero of the Soviet Union. He was born on September 30, 1923, in Donetsk, in a mining town called Vetka. His father, Nikolai Vasilievich Alymov, was a miner, and his mother, Evdokia Makarovna Alymova. He was married to Olga Amosovna and had two sons, Vladimir (born in 1950) and Sergey (born in 1960), who both earned their degrees in economics.
Early Life and Military Career
Alymov completed his secondary education in Donetsk. Growing up in the Donbass region, his parents and the local community instilled in him the qualities of a worthy person. These qualities would help him in his challenging path during the Great Patriotic War and in the post-war period, where he made significant contributions to the field of science.
During the war, Alymov served as a cadet at the Lepel Artillery and Mortar School from 1941 to 1942. He then rose through the ranks, becoming the commander of a platoon, battery, division, deputy commander of a regiment, and finally the commander of the 118th Mortar Regiment of the 43rd Army from 1942 to 1945. He displayed courage and skill in battles against the German invaders, earning him the Order of the Red Banner in 1943 for his bravery in a difficult battle.
Alymov continued to serve in the army, participating in the liberation of Belarus, Latvia, and Lithuania as the commander of a division. He was wounded twice in 1944 but returned to command his division after receiving treatment. In 1945, he was appointed as the commander of a regiment and was awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky and the Order of the Patriotic War for his valor in combat.
Later Life and Contributions to Science
After the war, Alexander Alymov demobilized from the military. He completed his education at the All-Union Correspondence Financial Institute and also passed exams at a mining technical school. He worked in various positions in different organizations, including the head of the personnel department at "Obltrudrezervov," an engineer at a production and technical department, and the head of the training department at the training and course combination "Donbassmashstroy."
In 1953, Alymov entered the graduate school of the Moscow Mining Institute. After successfully completing his studies and defending his doctoral dissertation in 1957, he began his research and organizational work at the Donetsk Scientific Research Coal Institute (DogUGI). He held positions such as the head of a sector and department.
In 1965, Alymov became the director-organizer of the Institute of Economic and Industrial Research within the Donetsk Scientific Center of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Under his leadership, the institute became a center of economic thought in the Donbass region and was later transformed into the Institute of Industrial Economics of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences in 1967.
Alymov's research focused on economic and industrial issues, including the use of economic-mathematical methods and computer technologies in various industries. He also played a significant role in the development and implementation of computerized management systems in manufacturing plants, such as the "ASU-Donetsk" system at the Donetsk Machine-Building Plant. He conducted research on the rational use of natural resources, including land, water, and forests.
Alymov's work earned him recognition and numerous awards, including being appointed as the chairman of the Council for the Study of the Means of Production of Ukraine and becoming an academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Academy of Ecological Sciences of Ukraine. He received two Orders of the Red Banner, Orders of Alexander Nevsky and the Patriotic War, the "Sign of Honor" medal, and many others.
