Early Life and Education
Alesya Leonidovna Batsman was born on October 3, 1984, in Kharkiv, Ukraine. She graduated with honors from Kharkiv National University with a degree in journalism in 2007. She then pursued a graduate degree but later took an academic leave.
Journalism Career
Beginnings in KharkivWhile attending university, Batsman began working for the Kharkiv social and political newspaper "Vremya" and for Serhiy Potymkov's television program "Komendantsky chas." She also served as editor-in-chief of the youth newspaper "Zebra" in 2005.
Collaborations in Kyiv
In 2006, Batsman moved to Kyiv and joined Savik Shuster's television program as an editor. She spent six years working closely with Shuster and was also a freelance correspondent for the weekly "Bulvar Gordona" and the newspaper "Zerkalo Nedeli."
Internet Editor and Interviewer
Since November 2013, Batsman has led the online publication "GORDON." She began hosting her own interview program, "Batsman Live," on NewsOne in 2017 and later moved to the "112 Ukraine" channel, where the program became "Batsman."
Controversies and Collaboration Issues
Batsman stated that she did not have a formal employment relationship with either NewsOne or "112 Ukraine" and did not receive a salary. She emphasized that she maintained editorial control over her programs, including guest selection and topic formulation.
In May 2019, Batsman left "112 Ukraine" due to the influence of Viktor Medvedchuk, a former Ukrainian presidential aide and close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin. She denounced the channel's content as detrimental to Ukraine.
YouTube Channel
Following her departure from "112 Ukraine," Batsman launched her own YouTube channel, "Alesya Batsman." In January 2021, the channel received a "Silver Button" from YouTube for surpassing 100,000 subscribers.
Personal Life
Batsman is married to Ukrainian journalist, television host, and writer Dmitry Gordon. They have three daughters together: Santa (born 2012), Alisa (born 2016), and Liana (born 2019).
Artistic Interests
In addition to her journalism career, Batsman has a passion for singing. She has performed in several televised concerts.
