Biography of Valery Komissarov
Early Life and CareerValery Komissarov, a Russian television presenter, writer, producer, and film and television director, was born on April 12, 1965, in Kharkiv. He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys in 1987 and also attended the Institute for the Qualification Improvement of Television and Radio Workers, specializing in directing.
After completing his education, Komissarov worked at the Lyublino Foundry and Mechanical Plant and the State Institute for Designing Metallurgical Enterprises (GIPROMEZ). In 1988, he became the administrator of the Youth Department at the Central Television of Gosteleradio USSR. From 1989 to 1992, he served as a special correspondent for the program "Vzglyad" and was elected as the secretary of the Komsomol organization of the Youth Department. He was also one of the authors of the television program "In the Fairy Tale's Guest."
Television Career
From November 1993 to March 1995, Komissarov hosted the program "Kanal Illuziy" on Channel One. He then moved to MTK, where he hosted the shows "Men and Women's Stories" and "Club of Open Men" from April 1995 to July 1996. From July 1996 to August 2003, he was the author and host of the program "Moya Sem'ya" on ORT and later on RTR (currently known as "Russia-1"). Komissarov described his program as a guide on how to live and how not to live, sharing experiences, giving advice, and answering questions. He also hosted other programs such as "Maryina Roshcha" (1998) and "Idealny Muzhchina" (2001) on the same channel. Additionally, he was the president of the nationwide movement "Moya Sem'ya" from 1998 to 2001.
Apart from his hosting roles, Komissarov also produced and hosted programs such as "Na Zdorov'ye!," "Semeynye Novosti," "Chto Khochet Zhenshchina?," "Devich'i Slyozy," "Bremya Dengi," "Dom," "Sluzhba Lichnykh Novostey," as well as the controversial shows "Okna" and "Dom-2." In 1997, he directed the film "Korabl Dvoynikov" starring Vladimir Zhirinovsky.
Political Career and Other Ventures
From 1999 to 2011, Komissarov was involved in politics and served as a deputy in the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation for three terms. He chaired the Committee on Information Policy and was a member of the government commission on the development of television and radio broadcasting. He was also a trusted representative for Vladimir Putin during the 2000 presidential elections. Komissarov, who identifies as an Orthodox Christian, became a patron of the construction of the New Christ's Birth Church in Nemchinovka in 2005.
In addition to his television career and political involvement, Komissarov created and owned the food brand "Moya Sem'ya" until 2010. He resigned from his parliamentary duties on February 25, 2011. In 2011, he started producing the reality show "Mama v Zakone" on the "Perets" channel. He later produced shows such as "Mashina" and "Schastlivy Konets" and hosted the daily talk show "#YaPrava" on the "Yu" channel.
From November 16 to December 30, 2015, Komissarov directed and hosted the program "Nash Chelovek" on "Russia-1" channel. In February 2020, he launched a new reality show called "Battle of Thrones" on the Megogo video service. In this costume show, anyone can become a real king or queen.
Personal Life
Komissarov's second wife, whom he married in 1996, is Alla Komissarova, a former editor of the program "Moya Sem'ya." He has five children: Valery (from his first marriage, born in 1991), Maria and Valery (born in 1997), Alexandra (born in 2013), and Elizaveta (born in 2015).
