Early Life and Education
Alexander Fridland(born December 18, 1967) is a Russian-American tech entrepreneur and investor. He co-founded and serves as chairman for the board of directors at Mirantis.
Career
Pre-EntrepreneurshipAfter graduating high school, Fridland emigrated with his family to the US and continued his education at the University of Santa Clara, earning a master's degree in artificial intelligence in 1992.
Entrepreneurship
In 1998, Fridland co-founded RSI Group, a software company that was later sold to London Bridge Software and eventually became part of NYCE:FICO.
In 1999, he founded Mirantis with Boris Rensky, which initially served clients in Silicon Valley. In 2002, Fridland co-founded Ventra, which has since become a business process outsourcing provider in Russia.
Cloud Computing and OpenStack
After the 2008 economic crisis, Fridland focused on cloud computing. He began consulting and building private clouds using OpenStack, with PayPal, DELL, and AT&T becoming early major clients.
Mirantis
Fridland received investments for Mirantis in 2012 from companies like Intel Capital, Red Hat, and Ericsson. He expanded the company's development team in Russia and developed their open operating system for cloud infrastructure management based on OpenStack.
Investments
In 2014, Mirantis received a $100 million investment from Insight Venture Partners. The company subsequently attracted additional investments, including a $100 million investment from Intel Capital.
