Macedonian Diplomat and Foreign Minister
Ilko Georgievski is a Macedonian diplomat who served as Minister of Foreign Affairs. As a member of the Democratic Alternative party, he was appointed to this position upon the formation of the center-right coalition government in 1998.
Diplomatic Initiatives
In January 1999, Georgievski's efforts to establish diplomatic relations with Taiwan reached fruition. He visited Taipei and formalized the relationship. However, this move drew the ire of China, which subsequently severed diplomatic ties with the Republic of Macedonia on February 9.
