Biography of Alexandru Epureanu
Alexandru Epureanu is a Moldovan footballer who currently plays as a defender for the Turkish club "Ümraniyespor." He is also the record holder for the most appearances for the Moldovan national team, having played in 100 matches.
Early Life and Career
Epureanu began his football training under the guidance of his father. At the age of 12, he joined the youth academy of FC Zimbru under the coaching of Nikolay Filippovich Esin. He later played for clubs such as Zimbru Chisinau and Sheriff Tiraspol in Moldova.
In 2007, Epureanu made a move to the Russian club "Moskva" for a transfer fee of 1 million euros. During his time at Moskva, he received the title of "Master of Sports" of Russia on November 26, 2009.
Professional Career
After the 2009 season, Epureanu joined the Moscow-based club "Dinamo" on a four-year contract. He was later loaned to "Krylia Sovetov" in Samara for six months before returning to Dinamo. He was then loaned again, this time to "Anzhi."
One of the memorable moments in Epureanu's career was when he scored a goal against his former club "Sheriff" in a Europa League group stage match, helping Anzhi advance from the group. After his contract with the Moscow club expired, he signed a six-month contract with Anzhi.
In July 2014, Epureanu signed a contract with the Turkish club "Istanbul Basaksehir."
National Team and Personal Life
Epureanu has been representing the Moldovan national team since 2006. He became the captain of the team under the management of Gavril Balint. In order to continue playing in the Russian Premier League, he acquired Russian citizenship, which exempted him from being considered a foreign player.
On March 31, 2021, Epureanu played his 100th match for the Moldovan national team.
Outside of football, Epureanu has two children, and his older brother Sergey Epureanu is also a footballer.
