Early Life and Education
Viktor Ivanovich Gedeonov was born in 1859 in the village of Shablykino, Orlovskaya Governorate, into a family of priests. He graduated from the Oryol Theological Seminary and enrolled in the Demidov Law Lyceum in Yaroslavl in 1880, where he founded an illegal "Narodnaya Volya" (People's Will) circle.
Revolutionary Activism
In 1882, Gedeonov was expelled from the lyceum for "organizing disturbances." After his readmission, he spread "Narodnaya Volya" ideas among students in Yaroslavl. In 1886, he was arrested for his involvement in a revolutionary circle and exiled to Ust-Kamenogorsk. Upon his return in 1892, he continued his revolutionary activities.
Exile and Imprisonment
In 1894, Gedeonov was arrested again and exiled to Verkholensk in Siberia. From 1901 to 1903, he lived in different cities, helping to establish the Party of Socialist Revolutionaries (SR). In 1906, he was exiled to Narym, but due to illness, he was allowed to go abroad to Paris.
Involvement in the SR Party
In Paris, Gedeonov became involved in the leadership of the SR Party. He was elected to the Central Committee of the Foreign Delegation and returned to Russia in 1909. After the February Revolution of 1917, he resumed his revolutionary activities, organizing Moscow district councils and serving in city government.
Post-Revolutionary Life
Following the October Revolution, Gedeonov worked in cooperative organizations. In 1922, he joined the All-Union Society of Political Prisoners and Exiles. He retired from service in 1925 due to illness and began writing memoirs, which remained unpublished. Gedeonov passed away in 1928 and was buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow.
