Early Life and Education
Professor Boris V. Chirikov, a distinguished plasma physicist and academician, was born in 1944. In 1967, he graduated from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT).
Doctoral Thesis and Research
Chirikov embarked on a scientific career, pursuing a doctoral degree at MIPT. In 1970, he successfully defended his dissertation on "Nonlinear Effects in Plasma Involving Ion-Sound Waves." Continuing his research at the Kurchatov Institute, he completed his doctoral thesis on "Small-Scale Turbulence and Turbulent Heating of Plasma" in 1979.
Professorship at MIPT
In 1991, Chirikov was appointed Professor at MIPT. He dedicated over two decades to teaching and research at the university. From 1979 to 2000, he shared his knowledge as a lecturer in the Department of General Physics. From 2000 to 2009, he taught at the Department of Plasma Physics and Chemistry, specializing in "Collective Phenomena in Plasma."
Research Interests and Publications
Chirikov's research interests centered around controlled thermonuclear fusion, theoretical plasma physics, and nonlinear physics. He authored over 170 scientific papers, a monograph, and two textbooks. His contributions to the field garnered him recognition as an academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering Sciences (RAEN).
Director of Applied Physics Department
In addition to his professorship, Chirikov also served as the Director of the Applied Physics Department at the Institute of Nuclear Synthesis at the RNC Kurchatov Institute. He dedicated his time to advancing research in this field.
Legacy and Passing
On January 29, 2010, Professor Boris V. Chirikov passed away in Moscow. His legacy as a renowned plasma physicist and mentor continues to inspire generations of scientists.
