Early Life and Education
Oleksandr Kobzar was born on May 18, 1976, in Kyiv, Ukraine. His family moved to the provincial town of Nizhyn when he was a teenager due to his father's health issues. Despite having no initial interest in the arts, Kobzar became involved in theater while keeping his friend company at a local culture school. He later enrolled in the Kyiv Theater Institute named after Ivan Karpenko-Kary, where he studied acting and then directing.
Theater Career
After graduating, Kobzar was assigned to the Donetsk Russian Drama Theater. He later joined the Nizhyn Theater, where he not only performed but also directed productions. In collaboration with a group of colleagues, he created the street performance "Morphine" based on Mikhail Bulgakov's novel. Kobzar has had a long-standing collaboration with the Left Bank Academic Theater of Drama and Comedy, where he performed and directed for over 12 years. In 2016, he joined the National Academic Lesya Ukrainka Russian Drama Theater.
Film Career
Kobzar made his film debut in the war drama "Second Front." Initially considered a theater actor, he gradually gained recognition in cinema. Notable early roles included Emeliyan Makhno's brother in "The Nine Lives of Nestor Makhno," crime boss Alexei Bryusov in "Brother for Brother," and anesthesiologist Ilya Rozin in "Fury." His breakthrough came with the drama "The Match," where he played Viktor Shevtsov alongside stars such as Sergei Bezrukov and Elizaveta Boyarskaya. Since then, he has starred in several films, including "The Last Role of Rita," "Solstice," "Guide Dog," and the detective series "Nikonov and Co."
Personal Life
Kobzar met his wife, Vera, while studying at the Kyiv Theater Institute. They married and have two children, Varvara and Prokhor. The family is close-knit and shares a strong bond.
