Alexander Kokorin: A Rising Star in Russian Football
Early Life and CareerAlexander Kokorin was born on March 19, 1991, in the town of Valuyki, Russia. He began his football journey at a young age, honing his skills under the guidance of his father. At the age of nine, he traveled to Moscow to attend a trial with Spartak Moscow, impressing the club but not securing housing. Lokomotiv Moscow stepped in and offered accommodation, where Kokorin spent the next six years and was repeatedly recognized as the top striker in the Moscow youth football league.
Breakthrough with Dynamo Moscow
In 2008, Kokorin signed a three-year contract with Dynamo Moscow. With the club facing a shortage of strikers, the 17-year-old made his Russian Premier League debut in the 24th round of the season against Saturn, scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 victory. He became the youngest player to score in that season, making him one of only 16 players to have netted in the top flight of Russian football at the age of 17. His first goal came on October 4, 2008, at the tender age of 17 years and 199 days.
International Recognition and Success
Kokorin continued to impress, scoring another goal three rounds later against his former club, Lokomotiv Moscow, securing a 1-0 win for Dynamo. He played in all six remaining matches of the season and was awarded a bronze medal for Dynamo's third-place finish. In the same year, he was named the Best Forward at the IV International Youth Tournament, hosted by the Belarusian Football Federation.
Growth and Development
The 2009 season saw Kokorin make his first appearance in the second round of the Russian championship against Khimki, marking his return with another goal in a 3-2 victory for Dynamo. He played in 23 matches and three Cup matches that year, but his goal count remained at two, and he received three yellow cards. In 2010, he appeared in 26 matches for Dynamo but failed to score. However, his performances caught the attention of other clubs, including Spartak Moscow and CSKA Moscow.
Contract Extension and International Debut
Kokorin's contract with Dynamo was set to expire at the end of 2011. After successful negotiations, he signed a new 3.5-year deal in February 2011. Since 2009, Kokorin has played for the Russian under-21 national team. In October 2011, his impressive performance earned him a call-up to the senior Russian national team for a friendly match against Greece, where he made his international debut.
