Ukrainian Geologist and Entrepreneur
Early Life and EducationAlexander Nastenko was born in Cairo, Egypt, into a family involved in the construction industry. In 1973, the family returned to Ukraine and settled in Kharkiv.
In 1994, Nastenko graduated from the Kharkiv Construction Engineering Institute as a civil engineer. In 2017, he earned a degree in geology from Karazin Kharkiv National University.
Business Career
Nastenko has held executive positions in construction, manufacturing, and the geological exploration industry. Since 2010, he has served as Chairman of the Board of Kharkiv Cable Plant.
In 2014, he became Director of Ukrgeoposhuk, a company specializing in preparing geological sites for industrial exploitation. In 2015, he assumed the same role at Atomic Energy Systems of Ukraine (AESU).
In a 2018 interview with The Economist, Nastenko highlighted the importance of developing Ukraine's geological infrastructure to attract investment in the mining sector.
Sporting Achievements
Nastenko is a former Ukrainian champion in motorcycle road racing (1999). He is an avid mountaineer and on May 14, 2018, became one of the first two climbers to ascend the technically challenging Shishapangma, the world's 14th-highest mountain.
Civic Activities
Nastenko is an honorary member of the Kharkiv Alpine Club. He supports the Kharkiv Cable Plant's sports club, which offers free sports sections for children. He also organizes boxing and wrestling tournaments in Kharkiv.
