Early Life and Education
Arvo Zamaxhin, an Estonian communist activist, was born after graduating high school. He enrolled at the Moscow Institute of Steel, where he earned a degree in metallurgical engineering.
Career in the Communist Party
In 1953, Zamaxhin was assigned to the Dvigatel plant, where he served as a senior foreman and head of the workshop's technology bureau. He joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) in 1957.
From 1960, Zamaxhin was the Second Secretary of the Morskiy District Committee of the Communist Party of Estonia (EPC) in Tallinn. In 1964, he graduated from the Higher Party School of the CPSU Central Committee and worked in the EPC Central Committee apparatus.
Political Leadership in Narva
From 1969 to 1973, Zamaxhin chaired the Executive Committee of the Narva City Council. He then served as First Secretary of the Narva City Committee of the EPC from 1973 to 1978.
Central Committee Roles
In 1978, Zamaxhin became First Deputy Head of Organizational and Party Work of the EPC Central Committee. From 1980 to 1984, he led the Industrial and Transport Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Estonia (CPCP). In 1984, he was appointed Head of the Statistical Administration of the Estonian SSR.
Accomplishments and Legacy
Zamaxhin was recognized for his contributions with two Orders of the Red Banner of Labor, the Order of Friendship of Peoples, and medals. He passed away on April 28, 1990, in Tallinn and was interred at the Tallinn Forest Cemetery.
