Alexandre Bilodeau - Canadian Freestyle Skier

Alexandre Bilodeau is a Canadian freestyle skier who achieved great success in the sport, becoming an Olympic champion and a world champion. He was born on September 8, 1987, in Montreal, Canada, to parents Serge Bilodeau and Sylvie Michaud.

Early Life and Family

Alexandre grew up in a family with two siblings. His older brother, Frederic, was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and it was predicted that he would be unable to walk by the age of 10. However, Frederic, now 28 years old, still maintains his mobility. Alexandre often visited Frederic's school, where children with special needs were educated. He also has a younger sister named Beatrice.

Early Sports Involvement

In his childhood, Alexandre was passionate about ice hockey. He frequently played hockey with his neighborhood friends, one of whom, Gatien Boucher, went on to become a legendary Olympic speed skater. However, Alexandre's interest in freestyle skiing sparked when he witnessed Jean-Luc Brassard win Olympic gold in moguls at the 1994 Winter Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway. At the age of seven, Alexandre made a deal with his mother that he would quit hockey if she allowed him to try moguls skiing.

Education and Career

Alexandre attended Jean-Ed College, a secondary school in Montreal, where he studied natural sciences. Currently, he is studying environmental science at Montmorency College and a technical college in Laval, Quebec, a suburb of Montreal.

His career in freestyle skiing has been remarkable. He finished 11th at the 2006 Olympics and became the youngest athlete in history to win a World Cup moguls event during the World Cup season. In the overall standings of the 2005-2006 World Cup, he finished second and earned the title of "FIS Rookie of the Year." His gold medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver was the first Olympic gold for Canada on its home soil. Prior to this historic event, Canada had never won a gold medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal or the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary.

Alexandre is also a Cup of the World champion in moguls for the 2008-2009 season. Throughout his career, he has won seven World Cup events, four of which were won in February 2009.

Personal Life and Hobbies

Alexandre attributes his success to the influence of his father, and he also mentioned that if he hadn't become an athlete, he would have pursued a career as a fighter pilot. In his free time, Alexandre enjoys playing the piano and, of course, skiing. He is fluent in both French and English.
