Alfred Gershfeld: A Musical Prodigy

Born into a musical lineage in Tiraspol, Moldova, Alfred Gershfeld's journey began with a home-based musical education. After relocating to Chisinau, he attended the Yevgeni Koka Special Music School and the Chisinau State Conservatory, institutions founded and led by his father, David Gershfeld, a notable Moldovan composer. Additionally, his grandfather, Grigory Gershfeld, served as a music pedagogue and composer at the conservatory.

Pursuing Musical Excellence

Gershfeld's education extended to the Gnessin State Musical College in Moscow, where he honed his skills as a conductor and violinist. Upon his return to Moldova, he became a conductor with the Moldovan State Philharmonic Orchestra and subsequently the principal conductor of the Moldovan Opera and Ballet Theatre, a position he held until his departure to the United States in 1990.

Moldovan National Chamber Orchestra

In 1988, Gershfeld established and led the Moldovan National Chamber Orchestra, based in the Organ Hall in Chisinau. This ensemble showcased his commitment to promoting classical music and nurturing young talent.
