Early Life and Professional Career
<h2>Youth Career</h2>Born on August 13, 1982, in Baku, Azerbaijan, Samir Qurbanov embarked on his footballing journey with the Police Academy, a club based in his hometown. His professional career kicked off in 1996, as the club plied its trade in the top flight of Azerbaijani football.
<h2>Domestic Club Career</h2>
Following Police Academy's relegation at the end of the season, Qurbanov moved to CSKA Baku. In mid-1998, he joined Karabakh Agdam, where he remained for two seasons. From 2001 to 2002, he represented Baku's Neftchi, before briefly featuring for Shamkir in 2003/04. In 2004, he signed with Khazar Lankaran, where he would become a long-serving player.
In June 2009, Baku's Olimpik expressed interest in acquiring Qurbanov, but financial constraints prevented a transfer. On November 23, 2010, he etched his name in Khazar Lankaran history by breaking the club's record for appearances, surpassing the previous mark set by Rashad Abdullaev.
<h2>Coaching Career</h2>
In 2012/13, Qurbanov assumed the role of player-coach at Khazar Lankaran. However, following the departure of head coach Yunis Huseynov, he was relieved of his duties.
<h2>International Career</h2>
Qurbanov made his international debut for Azerbaijan's youth team on March 23, 1999, in a European Championship qualifier against Portugal, which ended in a 5-0 defeat. His solitary cap for the senior national team came in a friendly match against Estonia in 1998, during the tenure of Carlos Alberto Parreira. Despite initial promise, he faced a prolonged absence from the national team until a recall in 2005 when Anatoly Ponomarev called him up for a friendly against Iran.
