Biography of Almasbei Kchach

Almasbei Kchach was born on September 19, 1958, in the village of Barmysh in the Gudauta District of the Abkhazian SSR. He came from an assimilated Abkhazian family with Turkish roots. Kchach had a higher education in law.

Career in the Ministry of Internal Affairs

From 1978 to 1991, Kchach held various positions within the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). He then served in the leadership of the security service of the highest authorities from 1991 to 1993. During this time, he became one of the closest associates and head of the security of the first President of Abkhazia, Vladislav Ardzinba.

Minister of Internal Affairs

In 1996, Kchach became the Minister of Internal Affairs of Abkhazia, a position he held until 2003. As Minister, he played a crucial role in maintaining law and order within the region.

Secretary of the Security Council

From April 2003 to 2005, Kchach served as the Secretary of the Security Council of Abkhazia. This position allowed him to contribute to the security and stability of the republic.

Parliamentary Elections and Tragic End

In 2012, Kchach ran for the National Assembly of Abkhazia in the eighth electoral district but failed to secure enough votes. However, on April 17, 2012, he tragically took his own life during an attempted arrest as a suspect in the organization of an assassination attempt against the President of the republic, Alexander Ankvab.

Connection to Terrorism

In May 2012, the Security Council of Abkhazia announced that Kchach was linked to a criminal case involving the planning of terrorist attacks in Sochi, scheduled for the pre-Olympic period between 2012 and 2014. Three leaders of the Abkhaz branch of the terrorist organization "Imarat Kavkaz" were arrested during a special operation.

Kchach was survived by his wife and four children.
