Biography of Almudena Cid Tostado
Almudena Cid Tostado is a Spanish athlete who represents rhythmic gymnastics in individual exercises. She started practicing rhythmic gymnastics at the age of 6. Initially, her mother wanted her to pursue ballet, but they eventually chose gymnastics. Almudena became a member of the Spanish National Team in November 1994. She became the first Spanish gymnast in history to actively compete in two Olympic finals, in Atlanta and Sydney. She is also the only "artistic" gymnast to have participated in three consecutive Olympic Games - Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, and Athens 2004. She has trained with several coaches, including Dalia Kutkaite and Nina Vitrichenko (mother and coach of Elena Vitrichenko).
Life in Barcelona
Almudena currently lives in Barcelona. She has signed several modeling contracts, including one with Nike. Almudena Cid Tostado is perhaps the only Western gymnast who has competed on an equal footing with gymnasts from Eastern Europe. She speaks Spanish, Basque, and English. In interviews, Almudena has often stated that she is not a Spanish gymnast, but a Basque one.
