Amauri: From Brazil to Italy
Amauri, a Brazilian-Italian professional footballer, rose to prominence as a formidable striker. His journey began in 1999 with Swiss club Bellinzona, where he showcased his attacking prowess.
Early Years in Italy
In 2001, Amauri made his way to Italy, joining Serie A club Parma. However, he was promptly loaned to Napoli for six months. He made his Serie A debut for Napoli in April 2001 against Bari. Following his stint with Napoli, Amauri went on to play for Piacenza, Messina, and Chievo before landing at Palermo in 2006.
Rise to Stardom at Palermo
At Palermo, Amauri's career took a significant turn. During the 2006-07 season, he netted 8 goals in 19 matches before suffering an injury that sidelined him for seven months. Undeterred, Amauri returned with vengeance in the 2007-08 season, establishing himself as Palermo's top scorer with 15 goals.
Choice of Italy National Team
Despite not having played for Brazil internationally, Amauri expressed his desire to represent Italy. His request was granted, and he made his debut for the Azzurri in a friendly against Ivory Coast in August 2010.
Loan Spells and Controversies
In January 2011, Amauri was loaned to Parma for a six-month period. The following summer, Juventus attempted to sell him but Amauri refused, determined to prove his worth. His decision caused friction with Juventus director Giuseppe Marotta.
Departure from Juventus and Fiorentina Chapter
In January 2012, Amauri's time at Juventus came to an end, and he joined Fiorentina. He continued to play professionally until 2017 before retiring and embarking on a coaching career.
