Early Life and Education

Mykola Anatoliiovych Epifanovwas born in Korovin, Ukraine, on August 15, 1944. He graduated from Korovin Secondary School in 1962 with a silver medal. In 1965, he earned a degree as a construction technician from the Sumy Construction Technical College, specializing in industrial and civil construction.

Career in Construction

Despite suffering a severe injury during an internship, Epifanov began working as a carpenter for the "Promstroy-1" construction unit of the "Sumkhimstroy" Trust in 1965. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a foreman in 1965 and an engineer for technical supervision at the Sumy Regional Executive Committee's Capital Construction Department in 1966.

In 1971, he graduated from Kharkiv University with a degree in economics. He continued his career in the Capital Construction Department, holding positions as head of the production and technical department and head of the engineering and technical group.

Leadership in Sumy

In 1975, Epifanov became the head of the Capital Construction Department for the Sumy City Executive Committee. From 1980 to 1989, he served as the head of the Capital Construction Department for the Sumy Regional Executive Committee. He played a crucial role in developing Sumy's general construction plan, which led to the construction of several new neighborhoods, the expansion of major streets, the establishment of educational institutions and kindergartens, and the construction of a bridge over the Psel River, the Shchepkin Theatre, and the Theatre Square.

From 1989 to 1992, Epifanov served as the chairman of the Sumy City Council Executive Committee and the Sumy City Council. During his tenure, he oversaw the construction of new waterworks, the acquisition of new trolleybuses, the implementation of the "Sumbud" project, and the expansion of gas and water services. He also initiated the restoration of a monument to the sugar refiner and philanthropist Ivan Kharitonenko.

Political Career

Epifanov's political career began in 1992 when he was appointed the president's representative in the Sumy region. He served as the chairman of the Sumy Regional Council from 1994 to 1995 and again from 1998 to 1999. From 1995 to 1998, he was the first chairman of the Sumy Regional State Administration.

Education and Academia

In 1996, Epifanov founded the Ukrainian Academy of Banking, where he served as rector until 2012. He was recognized as an honorary professor of the academy for his significant contributions to its development. He earned a Candidate of Sciences degree in 1991 and a Doctoral degree in 1994. His research focused on regional economic policy, the credit and financial system, and banking legislation.

Political Affiliations and Family

Epifanov was a member of the "Our Ukraine" electoral bloc, the Our Ukraine People's Union, and the Party of Regions. He was married to Valentina Aleksandrovna Epifanova, who worked as a head of the biology department at the Sumy Regional Institute for Teachers' Professional Development. They had two daughters, Oksana and Marina. He also had a daughter, Alexandra, from a second marriage.
