Early Life and Career
Born into a humble background, Ukrainian politician Анатолий Засуха embarked on his professional journey in 1975 as an apprentice at the Belaya Tserkov branch of the Ukrainian Training Plant. As an employee of the Ukrainian Machine Testing Station, he served in the Soviet Army from 1976 to 1978.
Education and Agricultural Background
Upon completing his military service, Zadivis entered the Belaya Tserkov Agricultural Institute and graduated with a degree in Agronomy in 1984. After a brief stint as an agronomist and party secretary at the "40 Years of October" collective farm in the Vasilkovsky district, he became the chairman of the Shchorsa collective farm in the same district from 1985 to 1993.
Political Career
Zadivis's political ascent began in the early 1990s. From 1993 to 1995, he served as the First Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of Ukraine. He was elected as a People's Deputy of Ukraine in 1994 and served until 1997. From 1995 to 1996, he chaired the Ukrainian State Committee for Land Resources.
The pinnacle of his political career came when he was appointed as the Chairman of the Kyiv Regional State Administration from 1996 to 2005. During his tenure, he concurrently held the position of Chairman of the Kyiv Regional Council from 2000 to 2001 and from 2004 to 2005.
Criminal Investigations
In 2005, Zadivis fled Ukraine after being implicated in several criminal cases involving abuse of power and forgery. His wife, Tatyana Peresudko, claimed that he had been appointed Deputy Governor of the Moscow Region in 2006, but the Russian authorities refuted this allegation.
However, in 2006, the criminal case against him was closed. Interpol also suspended his international search at the request of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs. Despite being summoned for questioning, he continued to evade authorities by hiding in Kazakhstan. He eventually returned to Kyiv in 2008.
Family and Personal Life
Anatoly Zadivis is married to Tatyana Vladimirovna Zasuha, a Ukrainian People's Deputy. Together, they have a son named Andrey, born in 1986. The family resides in the village of Kovalevka, which has effectively become their private property. They reside in a four-story house with a high fence, occupying a 2-hectare plot of land. Former Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma also has a dacha on their property.
