Early Career and International Success
Robin Lehner was born in Gothenburg, Sweden, and honed his hockey skills at the professional club Luleå HF. In 2010, he represented the Swedish national junior team at the World Junior Championships, contributing to their bronze medal victory. Eight years later, he achieved another international triumph with Sweden's gold medal at the 2018 World Championships held in Denmark.
NHL Draft and Journey
Lehner's exceptional talent caught the attention of the New York Islanders, who drafted him 62nd overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. However, he was initially drawn to the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), where he was drafted 10th overall by HC Dinamo Minsk in 2011.
Ak Bars Kazan and Edmonton Oilers
In 2014, Lehner joined Ak Bars Kazan, a powerhouse club in Russia's top-tier hockey league. After an impressive season, he returned to North America in 2015 to suit up for the Edmonton Oilers.
St. Louis Blues and Beyond
Lehner's time in Edmonton was short-lived. In 2016, he was traded to the St. Louis Blues in a deal that sent goalie Niklas Lundström and a draft pick to the Oilers. Lehner has since established himself as a key player in St. Louis, helping the team reach the Stanley Cup Finals in 2019 and cementing his place as a top-tier goaltender in the NHL.
