Biography of Andrey Golubev

Andrey Golubev is a Kazakhstani tennis player who stands at a height of 185 cm and weighs 72 kg. He began his professional career in 2005 and has a right-handed playing style with a one-handed backhand. Golubev is coached by Massimo Pucci.

Early Life and Family

Andrey Golubev was born to Marina and Alexander Golubev, and he has a younger brother named Denis. They all currently reside in the city of Bra, Italy, where Golubev also lives.

Tennis Career

Golubev has achieved notable success throughout his tennis career. He has reached the finals of ten Futures tournaments, winning four of them. In July 2007, he reached the final of a Challenger tournament in Recanati, Italy, where he was defeated by Yu-Chou Wang from Taiwan in three sets.

In January 2008, Golubev won his first Challenger title in Heilbronn, Germany. He defeated Philipp Petzschner from Germany in the final with a score of 2-6, 6-1, 3-1, retirement. It is worth mentioning that Golubev started his journey in this tournament from the qualifying rounds, winning eight consecutive matches.

In the summer of 2008, Golubev switched his nationality from Russian to Kazakhstani. He made his debut for Kazakhstan in the Davis Cup and gained valuable international experience playing for the national team.

One of Golubev's notable achievements was reaching the final of the St. Petersburg Open in 2008. In the final, he was defeated by Andy Murray, who was ranked 4th in the world at that time, with a score of 1-6, 1-6. Golubev started this tournament from the qualifying rounds and won seven out of eight matches to reach the final. He became the first Kazakhstani player to reach the singles final of an ATP tournament.

Two weeks after the St. Petersburg Open, Golubev won his second Challenger title in Astana, Kazakhstan. He defeated Laurent Recouderc from France in the final with a score of 1-6, 7-5, 6-3.

In July 2009, Golubev reached the final of a clay-court Challenger tournament in Recanati, Italy, but was defeated by Stefan Bohli from Switzerland in straight sets. In July 2010, he made history by winning the ATP tournament in Hamburg, becoming the first Kazakhstani player to win an ATP title. Golubev did not drop a set throughout the tournament, defeating the 6th-ranked player in the world, Nikolay Davydenko, and the 15th-ranked player, Jurgen Melzer, in the final.

In October, Golubev had a notable performance at the tournament in Kuala Lumpur, reaching the final after defeating top-seeded Robin Soderling. However, he lost in the deciding match against Russian player Mikhail Youzhny in a third-set tiebreak.
