Ángel Rubén Cabrera: Uruguayan Football Legend
Early Career and Domestic SuccessÁngel Rubén Cabrera was a renowned Uruguayan footballer who played as a right-forward. He spent the first half of his career with the prestigious club Peñarol. Cabrera established himself as a prolific goalscorer, winning the Campeonato Uruguayo top scorer award in 1960 with 14 goals. In 1961, he equaled his goal tally, but Alberto Spencer surpassed him with 18 goals.
Copa Libertadores and Continental Triumphs
Cabrera was part of Peñarol's squad in the inaugural Copa Libertadores in 1960, although he did not make any appearances. In the following edition of the tournament in 1961, he featured more prominently, playing in four matches. Unfortunately, he did not participate in the two final games against Palmeiras.
International Career and World Cup Appearance
Cabrera represented the Uruguayan national team on six occasions, scoring two goals. He was selected for the 1962 FIFA World Cup squad, where he made two appearances. Cabrera scored a memorable goal against Yugoslavia and also played against the Soviet Union.
