Early Life and Political Activism
Nino Sologashviliwas born into an ancient noble family in Georgia. She graduated with a degree in history from the University of Kharkiv. In 1903, she joined the Georgian Social-Democratic Party.
As a party member, Sologashvili actively disseminated Marxist literature, established book distribution channels, and participated in the creation of a public theater. Her political activities led to her arrest and judicial prosecution.
Role in the Establishment of an Independent Georgia
In 1918, Sologashvili played a crucial role in the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Georgia. She signed the Declaration of Independence and was elected to the Tiflis City Council.
The following year, she was elected to the Constituent Assembly of Georgia, becoming one of only five women members at the time. She served on several committees and was instrumental in initiating laws and regulations.
Anti-Soviet Resistance and Imprisonment
After the Sovietization of Georgia, Sologashvili became an active participant in underground anti-Soviet activities. She was a member of the illegal Women's Committee of the Georgian Social-Democratic Party, which provided aid to political prisoners and their families.
In 1937, Sologashvili was arrested and sentenced to death by the NKVD on charges of anti-Soviet propaganda, economic sabotage, chauvinism, and connections to the Menshevik leader Noe Ramishvili.
Later Years
After serving her prison sentence, Sologashvili worked as a teacher in South Ossetia. Her legacy as a Georgian patriot and feminist continues to inspire generations of Georgians.
