Early Life and Education

Lithuanian poet and translator, laureate of the National Prize for Achievements in Culture and Art (2008). Born in a village 3 km east of Skirsnemunė, the poet pursued German philology at Vilnius State University, graduating in 1973.

Publishing Career

Upon graduation, the poet embarked on a career in publishing, working at "Mintis". Holding various editorial positions, the poet served as editor at "Vaga" (1978-1986), deputy editor-in-chief at "Vyturis" (1986-1989), and editor of the cultural almanac "Proskyna" (1989-1996). Simultaneously, the poet edited the weekly "Amžius" from 1992 to 1994.

Literary Contributions

As a member of the Lithuanian Writers' Union since 1988, the poet has published three poetry collections (1987, 1990, 1997). Their work as a translator has significantly enriched Lithuanian literature by introducing works of German, Austrian, and Dutch poets, prose writers, and thinkers. Notably, the poet translated Sigitas Geda's poems into German. They also compiled a selection of J. W. Goethe's translations into Lithuanian, "Poezija" (1986).
