Anthony Thompson - American Heavyweight Boxer

Anthony Tyrone Thompson, better known as Anthony Thompson, is an American heavyweight boxer who is considered one of the strongest fighters in his weight category. He has participated in 33 professional fights, winning 31 of them (19 by knockout) and suffering two defeats.

Early Life and Career

Anthony Thompson was born on October 18, 1971, in Silver Spring, Maryland, USA. He had his first professional fight in January 2000. After winning his first four matches, Thompson suffered his first loss in July 2000, losing on points to Eric Kirkland. Despite this setback, he went on to win 27 consecutive fights. Among his notable opponents were heavyweight boxers such as Zuri Lawrence, Yanki Dias, Dominic Guinn, and Timur Ibragimov.

Championship Contender

On July 14, 2007, Thompson knocked out German boxer Luan Krasniqi, becoming the official contender for the WBO (World Boxing Organization) heavyweight championship title held by Ukrainian boxer Vladimir Klitschko. Thompson's next fight took place on September 27, 2007, where he knocked out American boxer Cliff Couser in the second round.

Match against Vladimir Klitschko

The highly anticipated match between Vladimir Klitschko and Anthony Thompson was scheduled for July 12, 2008, in Hamburg, Germany. Klitschko was defending not only his WBO title but also his IBF (International Boxing Federation) champion title, which he won on February 23, 2008, by defeating Russian boxer Sultan Ibragimov.

The Fight

The Klitschko-Thompson fight was clearly in favor of the Ukrainian boxer. In the final moments of the tenth round, Thompson suffered a leg injury and fell to the canvas, but managed to continue the fight. In the 11th round, Thompson was knocked out by a powerful right-hand punch to the head from his opponent.

Future Plans

Following his victory over Thompson, Klitschko was scheduled to face Russian heavyweight boxer Alexander Povetkin, the official contender for the IBF title, in the fall of 2008, as per the decision of the IBF.
