Early Life and Career
Born in Paraguay, Gustavo Adolfo Alcaraz is a skilled central defender who has played for both the Paraguayan and Italian national teams. His football journey began in his home country, where he played amateur football until the age of 19. Alcaraz's talent caught the attention of Argentine club Racing Club de Avellaneda, where he signed his first professional contract.
European Journey
In 2002, Alcaraz made a major leap by joining Italian giants Fiorentina. However, the club's subsequent bankruptcy and relegation forced him to seek opportunities elsewhere. After a trial with Palermo, Alcaraz found stability in Portugal with Beira-Mar. Over the next three years, he established himself as a top defender in the Portuguese league, leading Beira-Mar to promotion in the 2005-06 season.
Belgian Breakthrough
In 2007, Alcaraz signed for Belgian club Club Brugge. Despite a slow start, he eventually became a key player, helping the team to two third-place finishes and one second-place finish in his four seasons there.
Premier League Arrival
In 2010, Alcaraz made history by becoming the first Paraguayan to play in the English Premier League. Wigan Athletic secured his services, and he quickly made an impact.
International Career
Alcaraz's impressive club performances earned him a call-up to the Paraguayan national team in 2008. He made his debut in a World Cup qualifier and was part of the squad that reached the quarterfinals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
Personal Life
Outside of football, Alcaraz has a happy family life. He married his girlfriend Evange Lina in 2007, and they have a son named Valentino who was born in 2008.
