Biography of Anuar Alimzhanov
Anuar Alimzhanov was a prominent Soviet and Kazakh writer, journalist, and public figure. He was born on May 12, 1930, in the village of Karlygash, Taldykorgan Region. Alimzhanov studied at the Kazakh State University in Alma-Ata from 1949 to 1954 and joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1953.
Journalism and Literary Career
After graduating from the Faculty of Journalism, Alimzhanov worked as a correspondent for the "Literaturnaya Gazeta" (Literary Newspaper) in Moscow, covering Central Asia and Kazakhstan. From 1963 to 1967, he served as the chief editor of the Kazakhfilm Studio. In 1968, he was invited to work as a correspondent for the "Pravda" newspaper, focusing on Kazakhstan. In 1969, he became the chief editor of the literary weekly "Kazakh Edebieti." From 1970 to 1979, Alimzhanov was elected as the first secretary of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan. Simultaneously, from 1986 to 1989, he served as the secretary of the board of the Union of Writers of the USSR.
Political and Cultural Engagement
In 1986, Alimzhanov was elected as the chairman of the Kazakh Cultural Foundation and the Council of Peace and Accord of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He was also a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR and a member of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR, participating in the 24th and 25th Congresses of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. Since 1959, he had been a deputy chairman of the Soviet Committee for Relations with Writers of Asia and Africa and an active member of the Afro-Asian Association of Writers and the European Cultural Community.

Under his chairmanship, on December 26, 1991, the Council of the Republic adopted Declaration No. 142-N, officially ceasing the existence of the USSR. This declaration recognized the Belavezha Accords on the dissolution of the USSR and the formation of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). However, it should be noted that the declaration contained some inaccuracies, such as the claim that the highest state authority of the Russian Federation ratified the agreement on the creation of the CIS. In 1991, Alimzhanov was elected as the chairman of the Socialist Party of Kazakhstan.
Anuar Alimzhanov passed away on October 9, 1993, and was laid to rest in Alma-Ata.
