Arayik Harutyunyan: A Comprehensive Biography

Arayik Harutyunyan is a prominent Armenian politician who has served as the Prime Minister of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.

Early Life and Education

Born in 1956 in the Askeran region of Nagorno-Karabakh, Harutyunyan completed his education at the Simferopol State University in 1985.

Early Career

His career began in various youth and party organizations. From 1987 to 1990, he served as the Deputy Director of a vocational school in Simferopol.

Political Ascendancy in Crimea

From 1990 to 1998, Harutyunyan played a pivotal role in the Supreme Council of the Republic of Crimea. He successively held the positions of Chairman of the Standing Commission on International and Inter-ethnic Relations, Chairman of the Constitutional Commission, and First Vice-Speaker of the Supreme Council.

Concurrently, he chaired the board of the Crimean Armenian Society from 1989 to 1996. His expertise extended to economic restructuring, as he co-authored the Program for the Restructuring of Crimea's Economy.

Leadership in Nagorno-Karabakh

In 1999, Harutyunyan was appointed as the General Director of the Yerevan Cable Plant. Six months later, he assumed the position of Prime Minister of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, a role he continues to hold today.
