The Birth of a Rock Band
Inspired by a trip to Moscow, Andrei Lefler envisioned creating a rock band in his hometown of Nartkala, Kabardino-Balkaria, upon his return in 2000. After learning guitar, he approached Alim Eleev, who became the bassist. Timur Dokshukhin and Aleksandr Mirzoyan joined on keyboards and drums, respectively, and the quartet embarked on their musical journey. Adopting the name "EXTREME," they set out to push the boundaries of rock music.
The Evolution of "Extreme"
The band recorded their debut album, "Besheny Pes," with producer Islam Guke mukhov, despite their limited equipment and technical skills. Undeterred, they honed their craft and developed their unique sound. Over time, the lineup changed, with new members briefly joining and departing until a stable composition was achieved.
In the summer of 2001, Mirzoyan left Extreme, and Dokshukhin took over on drums. With improved instruments and musical abilities, the band expanded their repertoire with heavier and more professional songs. Their performance at the Nartkala Secondary School No. 5 showcased their maturing style.
Birth of "Apo kalipsis"
A pivotal moment came in January 2002 when Andrei Yurin joined as vocalist, and the band was renamed "Apo kalipsis." Yurin brought diversity to the group, performing harmonies with Lefler and writing songs for their second album, "Mir na Kolenyakh." The album's title track addressed environmental concerns and the impact of human actions on nature. Apo kalipsis continued to perform, including a tribute concert to Viktor Tsoi at the Nartkala Secondary School No. 1.
Media and Recognition
In March 2002, local television journalists began documenting Apo kalipsis's story. The resulting documentary featured rehearsals, concert footage, and interviews with the band members. The band recorded their first two albums, "Besheny Pes" and "Mir na Kolenyakh," at TET-A-TET studio in Nartkala.
The release of "Mir na Kolenyakh" was marked by a concert at Secondary School No. 1 on October 17, 2002. They followed up with their debut performance in Nalchik at the "Pochtovaya Golubka" café, where they made a strong impression on the audience and connected with established bands like "Otryad Dz hona v Okruzhenii" and "Airs-Rock." Guke mukhov promoted their recorded albums in the capital city.
Departure and Reinvigoration
On October 31, 2002, Apo kalipsis performed at the "Garmoniya" youth club, but this marked the last appearance for vocalist Yurin. Despite his departure, the band welcomed keyboardist Igor Khatinsky. On November 1, the song "TITANIK" debuted, written by Guke mukhov and featuring Khatinsky's contributions.
After a brief hiatus, Apo kalipsis reemerged on December 14 with a live radio appearance on "Zamorochki ot Primochki" on Russian Radio Nalchik. The band shared their plans for the future and held a giveaway for copies of "Mir na Kolenyakh."
Success and Touring
On December 15, Apo kalipsis participated in the "TSUNAMI" project alongside "Kafedra" in Nalchik. Their energetic performance captivated the audience. The band's reputation soared as they showcased their originality and youthful exuberance.
On January 3, they performed at the "Cheget" hotel in Terskol, impressing tourists with their musical versatility. Apo kalipsis played to enthusiastic crowds in their hometown of Nartkala on January 11, showcasing new material and fan favorites.
Album Releases and Lineup Changes
After their tour, the band focused on recording their third album, "Babylon." On February 20, they held a concert at the "Planeta" cinema in Nartkala to mark their second anniversary. They continued to deliver impactful performances and release new songs.
In June 2003, Khatinsky left the band, and Guke mukhov introduced guitarist Timur Khapachev. Khapachev contributed several new songs and fit seamlessly into the group. The lineup underwent a significant change when Dokshukhin returned to keyboards and Zalim Mirzov took over on drums. This brought the band in line with the traditional heavy metal band structure.
Music Videos and Radio Appearances
Apo kalipsis began filming a music video for "Mir na Kolenyakh" in both standard and DVD formats. In July, they appeared on Radio Russia Nalchik in their new lineup, performing "Ty Svoboden" and their signature song, "Mir na Kolenyakh."
City Anniversary Celebration
On September 27, Apo kalipsis played a grand concert in Nartkala for the city's 90th anniversary. Despite concerns about potential terrorist threats and unfavorable weather, the band delivered an electrifying performance that showcased their new material and reaffirmed their commitment to heavy metal.
"Zolotoy Disk" Contest
On December 20, Apo kalipsis participated in the "Zolotoy Disk" Republican competition in Nalchik. Their song "Golos Tvoy" was selected for the pre-selection round. The band performed live, impressing the judges with their musicality. They advanced to the finals, which culminated in a concert on December 26.
