Armando Cooper: A Panamanian Midfield Maestro
Club CareerArmando Cooper, a Panamanian attacking midfielder, began his professional career with Árabe Unido in 2006. Over five seasons, he propelled the club to three Panamanian league titles. In 2011, he sought pastures new and joined Argentine club Godoy Cruz.
Cooper made his Argentine Primera División debut against Racing Club in 2011 and scored his maiden goal against Unión Santa Fe. However, he struggled for regular playing time in his second season and moved on loan to Romanian side Oțelul Galați in 2013.
In Romania, Cooper made an immediate impact, scoring a brace in his debut against CFR Cluj. After a successful loan spell, he returned to Godoy Cruz, but his contract expired after six months.
In 2015, Cooper embarked on a new chapter with German club FC St. Pauli in the 2. Bundesliga. However, his time there was brief, as he returned to Árabe Unido in September 2015.
In the summer of 2016, Cooper joined Canadian club Toronto FC on loan. He made his Major League Soccer (MLS) debut against Chicago Fire and scored his first goal for the club against Montreal Impact. At the end of the season, Toronto exercised their purchase option. In 2017, Cooper celebrated his greatest triumph with Toronto FC, winning the MLS Cup.
International Career
Cooper represented Panama at the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada.He made his senior debut in 2007 against El Salvador. His international scoring debut came in the 2011 Central American Cup against Nicaragua.
Cooper played a pivotal role in Panama's 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign, earning a silver medal. He also featured in the 2015 and 2017 editions, where Panama finished third and participated in the 2016 Copa América.
