Armenian Political Figure and Diplomat: Armen Baiburtyan
Armen Vaganovich Baiburtyan (born April 2, 1964, Yerevan) is an Armenian political figure and diplomat, the son of Vagan Baiburtyan.
Education and Academic Career
Baiburtyan completed his undergraduate studies in the History Faculty of Yerevan State University from 1981 to 1986. He pursued postgraduate studies at the same university from 1986 to 1989, earning a Candidate of Historical Sciences degree.
From 1989 to 1991, Baiburtyan served as a lecturer in general and diplomatic history at the History Department of Yerevan State University.
Early Political and Diplomatic Career
In 1991, Baiburtyan became advisor to the First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR, later serving as advisor on foreign relations to the Chairman of the Supreme Soviet.
From 1992 onwards, he held the position of advisor in the Department of International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.
Diplomatic Missions and Appointments
From 1993 to 1995, Baiburtyan served as Deputy Permanent Representative of Armenia to the United Nations.
From 1995 to 1997, he was appointed Consul General of Armenia in Los Angeles. In 1996, he was awarded the rank of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Minister by presidential decree.
From 1997 to 2000, Baiburtyan held the position of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia. In 1999, he was awarded the rank of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador.
Concurrent with his diplomatic responsibilities, Baiburtyan served as an associate professor and lecturer at the Brusov Institute of Foreign Languages from 1999 onwards.
Later Career and Dismissal
From 2000 to 2004, Baiburtyan served as Armenia's Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to India, concurrently also representing Armenia in Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Indonesia.
In December 2004, he resumed his post as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.
On February 23, 2008, the President of Armenia signed a decree dismissing Baiburtyan from his position as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and revoking his diplomatic status.
