Early Life and Sporting BackgroundAron Gunnarsson was born into a family of exceptional athletes. His father, Gunnar Malmquist Gunnarsson, and brother, Arnor Thor Gunnarsson, are renowned handball players. His half-brother, Atli Maúr Runarsson, is a fellow footballer. Gunnarsson began his sporting journey as a handball player, making his debut for the Icelandic club Thor at the tender age of 15. He became one of the youngest players ever to debut in the Icelandic handball league.
Football Career
Gunnarsson's footballing career commenced in 2005, when he joined Thor's football section. His talent was quickly recognized, and he made the move to Dutch club AZ in 2006. He made his debut for AZ in the 2007/08 season. In June 2008, Gunnarsson joined Coventry City, where he quickly gained notoriety for his remarkable throw-ins, a skill attributed to his background in handball.
On July 8, 2011, Gunnarsson signed a three-year contract with Cardiff City. He has been a mainstay in Cardiff's defense and midfield ever since.
International Career
Gunnarsson made his international debut for Iceland in a friendly match against Belarus on February 2, 2008. He has become a vital member of the Icelandic national team, playing a pivotal role in their historic qualification for the FIFA World Cup in 2018.
