Armenian political figure. Artashes Mamikonovich Gegamyan (Armenian: Արտաշես Մամիկոնի Գեղամյան, born December 2, 1949, Yerevan) is an Armenian political figure.
Education and Early Career
From 1966 to 1971, Gegamyan attended the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute, where he studied electrical engineering. In 1988-1990, he was a student at the Academy of Social Sciences under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in Moscow.
Political Career
From 1974 to 1976, Gegamyan served as the first secretary of the Leninist Communist Youth League (LCY) committee at the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute. He then became the head of the youth department at the Central Committee of the LCY. From 1979 to 1986, he held various positions at the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Armenia (CPA), including inspector and assistant to the first secretary. In 1987-1989, Gegamyan was the first secretary of the Mashdots district committee of the CPA in Yerevan.

Gegamyan served as the mayor of Yerevan from 1989 to 1990.Later Career
After his term as mayor, Gegamyan became involved in various business and parliamentary activities. From 1991 to 1995, he was a member of the observation group of the joint-stock company "Zakneftegazstroy" and the director of the Armenian Universal Exchange "Prometheus". He also served as the general director of the LLC "XXI Century". Gegamyan was a member of parliament from 1995 to 2003 and again from 2003 to 2007. He was the founding chairperson of the "National Unity" party and a member of various international parliamentary organizations.
