Biography of Arthur Baghdasaryan

Early Life and Education

Arthur Baghdasaryan, an Armenian politician and statesman, was born on November 8, 1968, in Yerevan. He completed his secondary education at the Kh. Abovyan Yerevan High School in 1985. Baghdasaryan then enrolled in the Law Faculty of Yerevan State University and graduated in 1992. He also served in the army from 1988 to 1989.

Early Career

From 1989 to 1993, Baghdasaryan worked at the newspaper "Avangard" as a correspondent, department head, and deputy editor. In November 1993, he was elected Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Shengavit District Council in Yerevan. Baghdasaryan furthered his education at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation from 1994 to 1997 and successfully defended his doctoral dissertation in Moscow in 1997, earning a degree in legal sciences.

Political Career

Baghdasaryan's political career began in 1995 when he was elected as a Member of Parliament for the 1st convocation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. In September 1995, he was elected Chairman of the Union of Lawyers and Political Scientists of Armenia. He became the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on State and Legal Issues in March 1998.

In June 1998, Baghdasaryan was elected Chairman of the "Orinats Yerkir" party. He was re-elected as a Member of Parliament for the 2nd convocation of the National Assembly from the Shengavit electoral district in May 1999. Baghdasaryan served as the leader of the "Orinats Yerkir" faction in the National Assembly from September 1999.

In 2000, he became the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the French University in Armenia, and in 2002, he assumed the same position at the European Regional Academy in the Caucasus. Baghdasaryan was a member of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on Foreign Relations from 2001 to 2003.

On May 25, 2003, Baghdasaryan was re-elected as a Member of Parliament for the 3rd convocation of the National Assembly. On June 12, 2003, he was elected Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.

Contributions

Apart from his political career, Arthur Baghdasaryan is also an author of several scientific monographs and has written over 100 scientific and journalistic articles.

Personal Life

Baghdasaryan is married and has two children.
