Birth and Education

Asel Tasmagambetova was born on October 27, 1979, in Kazakhstan. She is the eldest daughter of Imanghali Tasmagambetov, a prominent Kazakh politician, and Klara Bekkulova, a school teacher. In 1999, she graduated from the Kazakh State Law University with a degree in Jurisprudence. In 2009, she completed her studies at the International Independent Environmental and Political Science University in Moscow, specializing in Ecology and Nature Management.

Foundation of "Sabi" Charity Fund

In 2002, Asel Tasmagambetova founded "Sabi," the first private charity fund in Kazakhstan. The fund aims to improve the lives of the most vulnerable and socially disadvantaged individuals and communities through charitable, social, cultural, and civic projects. It provides support in healthcare, education, environmental protection, and youth entrepreneurship.

Environmental Activism

In 2012, Asel Tasmagambetova co-founded the Central Asian Institute for Ecological Research (CAIER), which conducts research on environmental protection and offers consulting services on ESG certification. The institute has undertaken extensive research on the Caspian seal population, leading to the establishment of the Caspian Seal Research and Rehabilitation Center in Aktau in 2019. Tasmagambetova also launched the "Rethink. Recreate. Restore." program in 2021 with the United Nations to promote environmental awareness among Central Asian youth.

Support for the Arts

Asel Tasmagambetova is a patron of Kazakh culture and art. In 2008, she organized an international exhibition of contemporary art in London in collaboration with Christie's auction house. The proceeds benefited individuals with special needs in Kazakhstan. She also supported exhibitions of Kazakh jewelry and the establishment of Telli Gallery, which focuses on global ecology and human beauty.

Education Projects

Tasmagambetova's foundation has funded educational grants for orphans and organized training programs for their successful entry into higher education. She has also constructed and equipped state-of-the-art educational facilities, including a children's hospital, a school, and a social adaptation center for graduates of orphanages.

Family and Recognition

Asel Tasmagambetova is married to Kenes Rakishev, a Kazakh businessman. They have four children: Dinmukhammed, Nuridin, Sirin, and Iman. Her siblings are Sofya Tasmagambetova, a renowned set designer, and Nursultan Tasmagambetov. Tasmagambetova has received numerous awards, including the Order of Kurmet in 2016 and Honorary Citizen of Semey.
