Early Career and Peak with OlimpiaA legend in Paraguayan football, Aurelio González emerged as one of the greatest players in its history, ranking second only to the revered Arsenio Erico. González's journey began with Sportivo Luqueño in 1920, but his true brilliance blossomed with Club Olimpia Asunción in 1927, where he would remain for the rest of his career.
With Olimpia, González triumphed in numerous championships, including an unprecedented three consecutive titles from 1927 to 1929. In total, he amassed seven championship victories with Olimpia (1927, 1928, 1929, 1931, 1936, 1937, 1938).
International Acclaim and Patriotic Duty
After the 1930 FIFA World Cup, González received a lucrative offer from the Argentine club San Lorenzo de Almagro. However, driven by a sense of national duty, he declined to leave Paraguay during the Chaco War.
Coaching Legacy
Upon retiring as a player, González dedicated himself to coaching. He returned to his beloved Olimpia, leading them to numerous championships and the final of the Copa Libertadores in 1960. He also coached the Paraguayan national team at the 1958 FIFA World Cup.
