Syrian-British Entrepreneur

Ayman Asfari is a British entrepreneur of Syrian origin. He is best known as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Petrofac, a global British energy services company specializing in oil and gas production and energy infrastructure.

Early Life and Education

Asfari was born in Syria to a diplomat, but spent his childhood abroad. He studied in the United States and graduated from Villanova University in Pennsylvania. He later earned a Master's degree in Civil and Urban Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.

Business Career

Asfari began his career in Dubai as a consulting engineer in a soil testing company. He later moved to an Omani construction company as managing director before joining Petrofac in 1991. Petrofac then had only one site in Tyler, Texas.

In 2001, Asfari acquired the company and in 2005, it was listed on the London Stock Exchange. Since January 2002, Ayman Asfari has held the position of Director of Petrofac Ltd.

Success and Recognition

In 2011, Asfari won the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, recognizing him as the UK's leading entrepreneur. As of 2012, Asfari's net worth was estimated at $1.8 billion, making him 719th on the list of the world's richest people and 23rd in the UK. Petrofac has grown significantly under his leadership, signing $5 billion worth of contracts in the previous year alone, and partnering with companies like Saudi Aramco, Pemex, and Apache Corp.

Other Interests

Beyond Petrofac, Asfari is also known for his Asfari Foundation, which is a part of the American University of Beirut, and focuses on issues of civil society and citizenship in the Arab world.

Personal Life

Ayman Asfari is married with four children. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time on his yacht in the South of France.
