American Boy Band

Big Time Rush is an American boy band formed in Los Angeles, California in 2009. The band's members are Kendall Schmidt, James Maslow, Logan Henderson, and Carlos Pena. They released their debut album, B.T.R., in October 2010. The album debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold within a year. Their album Elevate was released on November 21, 2011. Their third studio album 24/Seven was released in June 2013.

Big Time Show

In 2009, Big Time Rush signed on to the Nickelodeon television series of the same name. Their debut single, "Big Time Rush," was released on November 29, 2009. The song was also featured in the hour-long preview of the series and served as its opening theme song. The series also featured the band performing "City is Ours," "Any Kind of Guy," and a cover of "Famous" by the group Play.

Studio Albums

Other songs from the series include "Halfway There," released on iTunes on April 27, 2010 after premiering on the show. It charted at number 93 on the Billboard Hot 100. Big Time Rush released the promotional single "Til I Forget About You" on September 21, 2010, which helped build anticipation for their debut album. The album, B.T.R., was released on October 11, 2010. It debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200, selling 67,000 copies in its first week of release. The album also reached number 4 on the Top Internet Albums chart and number 1 on the Top Soundtracks chart. Their track "Big Night" debuted at number 79 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album was later certified gold for shipping 500,000 copies in the US and has sold over 900,000 copies worldwide.

In November 2010, it was announced that a Big Time Rush special Christmas episode would debut later that month, and that a holiday EP would be released simultaneously with the episode. The EP, Holiday Bundle, was released on November 30, 2010. In the Christmas episode, the guys performed a cover of Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You" with fellow Nickelodeon star Miranda Cosgrove.

2011-2012

"Boyfriend" was released as the band's first official single to US radio on February 15, 2011. "Boyfriend" debuted at number 72 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming their most successful song to date. A remix of "Boyfriend" featuring the New Boyz was leaked onto the internet. Big Time Rush was nominated for an MTV Award for Breakthrough Band in 2011.

On July 22, 2011, the group released a promotional single, "If I Ruled the World," featuring Iyaz. Their second studio album, Elevate, was released on November 21, 2011. The album's lead single, "Music Sounds Better With U," co-written by Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic, was released on November 1, 2011. It debuted at number 12 on the Billboard 200, selling over 70,000 copies in its first week.

Big Time Movie

Prior to the release of Elevate, the band announced a national tour. The Better With U Tour began in February 2012. In late February, it was announced that a summer national tour would begin on July 5 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. Cody Simpson, Rachel Crow, and Leon Thomas III opened for the concerts, while Victoria Duffield and Tyler Medeiros opened in Canada. The tour concluded on September 18 at Rose Garden Arena.

The group announced that they would star in a full-length Big Time Movie. The movie follows the band as they travel to London, England for their first major world tour, but get sidetracked on a mission to save the world. The film was released theatrically in the United States on March 10, 2012, while in Germany it was released on September 22 of the same year. The band recorded a cover of a Beatles song, which was featured on a soundtrack EP for the movie. Despite receiving mixed reviews from contemporary film critics, many of whom drew comparisons to The Monkees but commended it as a fun and lighthearted viewing experience, the movie was a success, garnering over thirteen million views in its first week.

2013-2014

Nickelodeon renewed the Big Time Rush series for a fourth season consisting of 13 episodes in 2013, which began filming on January 7. The band also released a song titled "Like Nobody's Around," which was first performed in the episode "Big Time Invasion." "Like Nobody's Around" is the second track on both the standard and deluxe versions of their third album.

In an interview with Cambio on April 15, Big Time Rush announced that their third studio album, titled 24/Seven, would be released sometime in early June 2013, and that their fourth season premiere would air on May 2, 2013. The album 24/Seven was released on June 11, 2013. It was met with far less success than their previous record. However, the title track and the power rock ballad "We Are" achieved major success in the United States as well as countries like Mexico and Brazil. 24/Seven has gone gold in several countries since its release, with millions of copies sold worldwide.

The members of BTR took a short break from their group activities to work on film projects and personal music. The group was nominated for World's Best Group, World's Best Album, and World's Best Live Act at the annual World Music Awards, which took place in Monte Carlo on May 27, 2014. Big Time Rush was later confirmed to have won Best Live Act, making them the first Nickelodeon act to be nominated and win an award at the show.

In 2014, the band embarked on their new concert tour, the Big Time Rush Live 2014 World Tour, in support of their latest album, 24/Seven. It is their fourth official tour and their first world tour. The tour began on February 7, 2014, in Grand Prairie, Texas, and concluded on February 23 in Guatemala. Despite its title, the tour was not a world tour as it only featured eleven cities in total, all in the United States and Latin America.

Reunion Era

On November 28, 2018, Carlos Pena posted on his Instagram a post dedicated to the band's 9th anniversary, in which he expressed gratitude for everything that had happened to him as part of it. He also proposed the idea of a "10-year reunion tour" to take place the following year. The next day, Kendall Schmidt also posted on Instagram in a similar manner, supporting the idea of a tour. Two days later, James Maslow seemed to confirm that the tour could potentially happen the following year.

On December 23, 2018, Carlos Pena posted on his Instagram, along with Kendall Schmidt, a video of them singing Big Time Rush's "Boyfriend." The post included the hashtags "#comingsoon #BTR #BigTimeRush #Boyfriend." A few days later, a video of them singing Big Time Rush's "Beautiful Christmas" (Video) was uploaded to Carlos' channel, where they teased about the tour happening in the following year—no clear answer was given, but it was evident that Kendall Schmidt and Carlos Pena were determined to bring Big Time Rush back.

On January 6, 2019, Logan Henderson stated, "Did y'all see that Instagram post? Carlos needs to get out of the beach and get into the city. I'm down for a reunion anytime, man," Logan said. "We're like brothers anyway." Many fans speculated that the band was officially getting back together.

2020: Virtual Reunion

In April, the band regained control of their Twitter and Instagram social media accounts (previously BigTimeRush's Twitter account had been hacked and deactivated while the official BigTimeRush Instagram login had been taken over by a fan page). On April 20, Big Time Rush virtually reunited, sharing a video on social media with well wishes for their fans amid the COVID-19 pandemic. An acoustic cover of their hit song "Worldwide" was uploaded in June. Throughout the year, their social media remained active and an acoustic cover of their song "Beautiful Christmas" was uploaded in celebration of Christmas.

2021: To Be Continued?

In numerous Instagram Live sessions, James Maslow teased fans about a potential full-scale return in 2021, which was originally supposed to happen in 2020 but was prevented due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On March 26, 2021, Big Time Rush was made available on Netflix.
