Biography of Boris Kolesnikov
Early Life and CareerBoris Viktorovich Kolesnikov was born on October 25, 1962, in Zhdanov (now Mariupol), Donetsk Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. He did not serve in the army due to a complicated surgery on his left hand at the age of 18. Kolesnikov worked as a salesman and carpenter before entering the field of business. He managed a trading company called "Yug" from 1993 to 1999 and also founded the production association "Kiev-Konti" in 1997. Under his leadership, "Kiev-Konti" became one of the largest confectionery companies in Ukraine and the CIS.
Political Career
Kolesnikov entered politics in 1998 when he was elected as a deputy of the Donetsk Oblast Council. He held various positions in the regional government, including Deputy Chairman and Chairman of the Council. In 2001, he became the President of the Donetsk Football Federation and Vice President of the football club "Shakhtar". In 2006 and 2007, Kolesnikov was elected as a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian parliament. He joined the Party of Regions and became the Deputy Chairman of the Party and the Deputy Chairman of its faction in the Verkhovna Rada.
Controversies and Accolades
Kolesnikov faced legal troubles in 2005 when he was arrested on suspicion of extortion. However, the charges were dropped and he was released after a few months. He has been recognized as one of the most influential people in Ukraine and has been listed among the wealthiest citizens of the country. Kolesnikov received various awards and honors for his contributions to the socio-economic development of Ukraine.
Personal Life
Kolesnikov is married to Svetlana and they have two children, son Konstantin and daughter Ekaterina. In addition to his political career, Kolesnikov is a passionate reader of political and historical literature. He has also been involved in the field of football, serving as the President of the Donetsk Football Federation.
