Geoffrey, Count of Penthièvre

Geoffrey, Count of Penthièvre, was the son of Eudon I, Count of Penthièvre, and Agnes of Cornwall. Geoffrey succeeded his father as Count of Penthièvre in 1079.

Revolts and Alliances

Geoffrey rebelled against Hoel II, Duke of Brittany, alongside Eudon I, Viscount of Porhoët, and Geoffrey Gregnathon, Count of Rennes. However, their revolt was unsuccessful and Geoffrey was forced to retreat.

Religious Patronage

Geoffrey founded the monastery of Saint-Martin-de-Lamballe in 1083. He also made donations to the Abbey of Saint-Florent.

Death and Succession

Geoffrey died in the Battle of Dol, with sources varying on the date between 1091 and 1093. As Geoffrey's only son, Conan, was fighting in the East at the time, Geoffrey's younger brother, Étienne I, became Count of Penthièvre.

Marriage and Children

Geoffrey's wife is unknown. He had one child: Conan, who was killed during the siege of Antioch on February 9, 1098.
