Brian Ruiz: A Costa Rican Star
Early Career and SuccessBorn in San José, Costa Rica, Brian Ruiz began his professional football career at the age of 18 with hometown club Alajuelense in the Costa Rican Primera División. He quickly made a name for himself, forming a formidable trio with renowned strikers Rolando Fonseca and Froylan Ledezma. Under their leadership, Alajuelense won the 2004 CONCACAF Champions' Cup and the 2005 Costa Rican Championship.
European Journey
In 2006, Ruiz embarked on a European adventure, joining Belgian club Gent. He spent three seasons with the Belgian side before making a move to Dutch club Twente in 2009. With Twente, Ruiz won the Dutch Super Cup twice (2010 and 2011), the Dutch Cup (2010-11), and finished as a league runner-up in 2011.
Premier League Stint
In 2011, Ruiz signed for English Premier League club Fulham. He spent four seasons with the London-based side, scoring some memorable goals. In October 2011, he was awarded the Premier League Goal of the Month for his stunning strike against Wigan Athletic.
Return to Europe and Sporting Lisbon
In 2015, Ruiz joined Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon. He immediately became a key player for the club, helping them win the Portuguese Super Cup in his first season.
International Career
Ruiz has been a mainstay of the Costa Rican national team since his debut in 2005. He has represented his country at three FIFA World Cups (2006, 2014, and 2022) and has captained the side on several occasions.
