Biography of Camille-Christophe Gerono
Camille-Christophe Gerono was a French mathematician known for his work on problems in geometry and Diophantine analysis. He was born in Paris and studied at the Polytechnic School, where he later became a professor.
Contributions
Gerono made significant contributions to the fields of descriptive and analytical geometry, as well as trigonometry. He authored a number of textbooks on these subjects, which were widely used in education.
Nouvelles Annales de Mathématiques
In 1842, Gerono founded the journal Nouvelles Annales de Mathématiques, which he co-published with O. Terquem until Terquem's death in 1862. The journal continued to be published until 1927 and was a significant platform for the dissemination of mathematical research during that time.
Gerono's Lemniscate
One of Gerono's notable contributions to mathematics was his research on a curve known as the Gerono's Lemniscate. This curve was named in his honor to recognize his work in its study.
