Early Life and Career
Carlos Alberto Zollim Filho, better known as Carlitos, was born in Pelotas, Brazil, on August 19, 1922. His passion for football emerged at a young age, leading him to join the youth team of Internacional in 1938.
Legendary Striker at Internacional
Carlitos made his professional debut for Internacional in 1939 and quickly established himself as a formidable striker. He was a key member of the club's renowned "Rolo Compressor" attacking trio alongside Tesourinha and Adãozinho. Together, they terrorized opposition defenses, propelling Internacional to numerous titles.
Record-Breaking Accomplishments
During his illustrious career with Internacional, which spanned from 1938 to 1951, Carlitos scored an astonishing 326 goals in 347 appearances. He is the club's all-time leading goalscorer and holds the record for most goals scored against their arch-rivals, Grêmio, with 45 goals in 62 matches.
National Recognition
Carlitos' exceptional performances caught the attention of the Brazilian national team, for which he made four appearances. He also played in the South American Championship, known as the Copa América, in 1946.
Individual Honors
In addition to his team successes, Carlitos received numerous individual accolades. He was crowned the Campeonato Gaúcho top scorer six times and was named the Brazilian Player of the Year in 1948.
Retirement and Legacy
Carlitos retired from playing in 1951 and went on to become a successful manager. He guided Internacional to victory in the Campeonato Gaúcho in 1955 and 1956. Carlitos passed away on January 29, 2002, at the age of 79.
