Carlos Gomes Júnior is a politician from Guinea-Bissau who has served as Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau on two separate occasions: from May 10, 2004 to November 2, 2005, and from January 2, 2009 to February 10, 2012.
Presidential Candidate and Arrest
In 2002, Gomes became the President of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC). He is widely known by the nickname Cadogo. During the first round of Guinea-Bissau's presidential election, which was held to replace former President Malam Bacai Sanhá who had passed away, Gomes was the leading candidate. However, on April 13, 2012, he was arrested during a military coup. Eventually, in late April, he was exiled to Côte d'Ivoire.
