Karola Blume: A Trailblazing German Politician
Early Life and EducationKarola Blume was born in East Berlin, the daughter of two lawyers. She grew up in an open-minded household where daily debates fostered her interest in politics. In 1981, Blume joined the Socialist Unity Party of Germany and soon became a candidate for local political office, despite her qualms about the one-party system.

From 2009 to 2011, she served as a Senator of Berlin.
