Early Life and EducationChanda Kochhar, an Indian entrepreneur and finance executive, was born in Jodhpur, Rajasthan and raised in Jaipur. She completed her schooling in Jaipur and subsequently pursued her college education in Mumbai. Kochhar graduated from Jai Hind College in 1982 with a bachelor's degree and later continued her studies at Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies. She excelled academically and was awarded two gold medals for her achievements.

Career at ICICI
Kochhar began her career as an intern at ICICI Ltd in 1984, immediately after earning her master's degree. In 1993, she was transferred to ICICI Bank and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming an assistant general manager in 1994 and then deputy general manager in 1996. In the same year, Kochhar was appointed as the head of the newly established Infrastructure Industry Group at ICICI, where she analyzed and evaluated energy, telecommunications, and transportation companies.

In 1998, Kochhar became the general manager and led the Major Client Group, which focused on managing relationships with ICICI's top 200 clients. She was also entrusted with the responsibilities of strategy development and e-commerce. Under Kochhar's leadership, ICICI Bank ventured into retail banking in July 2000, and within five years, it became the largest retail financial organization in the country.
Executive Roles
In April 2001, Kochhar was promoted to the position of Executive Director at ICICI Bank. Five years later, in April 2006, she became the Deputy Managing Director of the bank. From October 2006 to October 2007, Kochhar oversaw the bank's international and corporate affairs. She then served as the Chief Financial Officer and Official Spokesperson of the bank from October 2007 to April 2009.
In May 2009, Chanda Kochhar was appointed as the Managing Director and CEO of ICICI Bank, holding these positions for a five-year term. Currently, she resides in Mumbai with her husband, Deepak Kochhar, who is an entrepreneur, and they have two children, a son and a daughter.
